Are you ready to tame dinnertime? In a workshop that takes about two hours, you will prepare ten meals to stock your freezer. What a time-saver! The meals are going to make your dinnertime less chaotic and much more enjoyable. This freezer meal workshop will be held on Saturday November 5th at 10:00 am; Trinity United Methodist Church (400 3rd Ave. SW Cedar Rapids, IA)
Here’s how this works:
Step 1: Register. One you have completed the registration (at the bottom of this page) you will receive an email with a list of grocery items that you will bring along with you on the day of the freezer meal workshop and a pre-workshop prep chart. You will arrive with the ingredients, gallon size freezer bags, and a cooler to store your prepped meals. Your workstation will be awaiting you with recipes, instructions, spices, and tools you need to get the job done. All for a small fee of $35.00.
Step 2: Shop. Ideally you would do this the day before your workshop. Keep in mind you can swap proteins for what you like or use what is already in your freezer. Don’t like fish? Use chicken. Just keep in mind if you make swaps, your cooking instructions may be different from the provided recipe at cook time. You also have the option to switch out fresh vegetables with frozen if you’d prefer.
Step 3: Label. Mark your freezer bags. Number them 1 to 10. Serving sizes are listed for each recipe, but you can adjust the recipe to fit your family’s needs. Need smaller meals? You can make 20 freezer bags instead of 10, splitting the recipe ingredients into 2 bags per recipe.
Step 4: Chop & Fill Bags. For recipes calling for meat that is cut up, you can ask your butcher to do that when you buy it. Place the meats in your corresponding numbered freezer bags following the pre-workshop prep chart. Once completed, keep these bags cold in the refrigerator until you transport them to the workshop in a cooler. If you buy your meat frozen, it’s okay to pre-bag or bring whole cuts to the workshop still frozen. However, you will want any ground meat to be thawed so you can mix it well with other ingredients. Bring with you the additional items from your shopping list, an apron, and you’re ready to go!
